Flaming River Column Upgrade

After researching both Flaming River and IDIDIT columns I decided on the FR design. Main reason was the design incorporates a luminated shift indicator that integrates with the inside of the column and has a bulb. IDIDIT version does not illuminate, attaches to the column with two sheet metal screws, and the indicator arrow uses doublestick tape to attach to the shift bell, Flaming River design attaches thru a hole on the shift housing and gets its illumination via a bulb just under the lens. Cost was $25 more to go with the Flaming River, and I got a Polished Stainless Steel version where as the IDIDIT would have been chrome plated, and $280 more for Polished Aluminum!

My car was originally a 3 speed on the column, the previous owner put a floor shifter in when he went automatic. I installed a Bow Tie Overdrive 200-4R Transmission and wanted to clean up the floor with a new column shift system. If you don't want column shift, then you want FR20005SS and no linkage kit or overdrive lens comes to only $664!! I was willing to pay the extra $352 to get rid of the floor shifter and clean up the cabin a bit from aftermarket looking items. I also paid $75 extra for the NE model which comes with the Neutral Safety Switch which also provides a set of prongs for the backup lights! Not required in 1963 but a nice touch to have function. Stock clamp would have worked if I wanted to drill a hole in the top of the column for the indent on the clamp, I elected to purchase the IDIDIT 2310000040 Polished dash mount instead from Summit.
